What to expect

Mentoring is a personal and professional development partnership that helps people build the confidence, clarity and agency to take charge of their own careers and progress towards their short, mid and long-term goals. Recognising that access to networks, senior industry experience and opportunities for progression is not equally available to everyone, Audio Academy Mentoring opens up access to industry leaders, their experience, expertise and support.
It gives mentees dedicated space to explore where they are in their career, navigate challenges, identify new opportunities and directions, and work towards what they want to achieve next.
The mentoring partnership is led by the mentee. Each participant sets their own agenda and decides how best to use their six hours of one-to-one mentoring, focusing on the goals, challenges and ambitions that matter most to them.
The six-month programme comprises
  • 6 hours of one-to-one mentoring with a senior figure from the audio industry
  • 4 x in person Leadership & Development sessions including programme launch and networking
  • 3 x Online Action Learning Set sessions
  • Programme Graduation & Networking
Alongside the one-to-one mentoring, the programme provides leadership and professional development, peer learning and a supportive network, helping participants build confidence, capability and momentum in their careers while contributing to greater equity across the radio and audio industry. It also provides a network of peers and access to a wider audio community which continues after the programme.
Taking part is a commitment to your own development, your mentor and the wider cohort. Participants are expected to attend the timetabled sessions and participate fully in the programme.
Dates are shared well in advance so that participants can earmark and protect the time in their diaries.
The 2027 programme will be led by Fran Plowright. Founder and curator of Meet a Mentor.
Fran has a background in audio and TV production, and leads on a number of mentoring, leadership and training programmes in the creative industries.
There's much more info on the programme and details on how to apply here.
Audio Academy Mentoring is available to Members. You do not need to be a member at the time of applying. However, if you are selected then you must become a Member in order to join the programme.

"Mentoring, when it’s thoughtfully matched, properly delivered and brilliantly supported, can have a huge impact. It certainly has on me. The support from the Audio Academy, my mentor and the whole cohort has helped me see where I’m heading and feel proper excited about the path ahead." - 202 Graduate

"RAMP has been a game changer for me in so many ways. I had a wonderful mentor who helped me navigate new paths, championed my ideas and introduced me to some wonderful contacts. My fellow mentees were brilliant and encouraging. It’s a fantastic programme that I would thoroughly recommend." - RAMP 2025 Graduate

"My RAMP experience was brilliant. I gained so much valuable, realistic insight from my mentor and feel far better-informed about my possible career trajectory than I did six months ago. It was fantastic to be part of a genuinely supportive cohort of peers and the Radio Academy team took such care to look after us, from start to finish. RAMP is totally unique and I can’t remember being on a programme that exuded such generosity of spirit while also being so constructive and useful!"- RAMP 2025 Graduate

"The scheme has helped me to embrace challenges and reframe setbacks. My mentor has given me a lot of confidence, I feel braver, more assertive and I know that if I am going to try new things I have to accept that there will be hurdles and they might take a few attempts to clear.
- RAMP 2024 Graduate
